Editorial policy

UK Garden Room publishes practical guides for people planning a garden room, garden office, log cabin or annexe in the UK. This page explains how those guides are made, so you can judge how far to rely on them.

Sources first

Every price, fee, rule and statistic links to where it came from. For rules we go to the primary source: GOV.UK, the Planning Portal, legislation.gov.uk, the Welsh and Scottish governments, nidirect, HMRC, the Valuation Office Agency and Ofgem. For prices we use published price guides, retailers’ own listings and installers’ published figures, with the date we checked them. When owners’ experiences help, we quote public forum posts word for word and link to them.

Checking

Each article is checked against its sources by a separate review before it is published: figures are re-opened and compared, calculations are re-run, and anything that can’t be supported is corrected or removed. Where we’ve done our own arithmetic, we say so and show how.

How we use AI

We use AI tools to help research, draft and check our guides. That’s why the sourcing and checking above matter: no figure goes in without a source we’ve opened.

Dates and updates

Prices, energy rates and fees change. Articles say when figures were checked, and we schedule updates when known changes are due, such as changes to the Ofgem price cap and to planning fees.

Independence

We don’t accept payment to cover or rank a company, and companies don’t see our reviews before they’re published. Reviews use published prices and terms, Companies House records and what buyers report, with links. How the site pays for itself is on How we make money.

Not advice

Our guides explain the rules and costs in general. They aren’t legal, tax or financial advice. For your own project, check with your council, HMRC or a qualified adviser.
